About
Join us for an exclusive visit to the source of Basel’s drinking water and discover the fascinating journey it takes before reaching our homes. Discover the unique biological purification process and the supplementary treatment steps that guarantee safe, clean, and reliable drinking water every day.
While we often take fresh drinking water for granted, few of us know the scale of effort and infrastructure behind it. To sustainably cover Basel’s water demand, natural groundwater is enriched with water from the Rhine. In the forested recharge areas of the Lange Erlen recreational zone, billions of soil organisms play the key role in this natural purification process – a method that is unique and highly effective.
